Tucson Book Fest and First Year Experience Conference Presentation
March 15, 2015
Had a really interesting panel conversation at the Tucson Book Festival with Andrew Smith (whose new book is The Alex Crow) and Jo Knowles (whose new book is Read Between the Lines). We talked about non-linear structures in fiction -- and other stuff. Here we are!
In unrelated news, I was recently at the FYE (First Year Experience) Conference, where authors and college professors come together to talk about books that might be food for "One Book One School" or "One Book One City" type reads for Freshman.
I had an amazing time and talked to lots of smart educators. I also got to hear presentations by Okey Ndibe (Foreign Gods, Inc.) , Anthony Marra (A Constellation of Vital Phenomenae) , Max Brooks (Harlem Hellfighters), and Bryan Stevenson (Just Mercy). Here's my talk about We Were Liars and the ways it might be useful for college freshmen as a group read, especially for incoming students who might be reluctant readers, yet.
It runs about 13 minutes. I tell some stories.
