Lauren's blog

Well, I email this person 12 times a day because we have a book coming out, but only now did I find out:
Lauren Myracle has a blog!

Extremely fun reading. Learn what to do if your thigh-highs fall down!

Edited to add: oh, and it's on livejournal, too, so you can friend her.

AND

Click HERE to vote for your favorite of our How to Be Bad author photos. Although we are very vain and may not take your advice. We'd still like to know what you think! Is it ridiculous when I am laughing like a maniac, or charming? Is Sarah's hair too big sometimes, or always just fabulous and you wish you had it?

AND

Our photographer was Heather Weston, who also took my usual author photo and has a very cool website. As Lauren says, the photographer was hot. And Heather IS hot, but that is not really what we were responding to. It was her assistant, Phil, who kept calling Lauren "Hotlanta!" and blatantly used his hotness to make us try to look good, or in my case, to make me laugh.

Valiant

I just (finally!) read Valiant by Holly Black.

I love a YA book which does not in the slightest bend itself to the crazy demands of censors but just puts itself OUT THERE. I mean, some really major stuff goes on in Valiant*, but it is all integral to the complex world Black is building, a New York City full of faerie folk who are queer and highly varied and dangerous and beautiful -- and the messed-up humans who serve them.

It's about becoming a hero -- finding the hero in yourself even when you are at your lowest ebb and faced with forces that seem infinitely stronger than you.

I also love that the romantic hero is a TROLL.

*sex, drugs, homelessness, kitten murder, dead mermaids, really really bad parental behavior, vandalism, theft, hearts and eyeballs yanked from living bodies -- and also some amazingly raw and true FEELINGS plus girl HEROISM with sword-fighting!

GLBT books for young adults and Reading Rants

Reading Rants was always awesome but now it's new and SHINY SHINY SHINY, redesigned with interactivity. Also hot new booklists.
Dramarama even made its first ever GLBT booklist, which I'm very pleased to see
(as it generally flies under the radar as a GLBT-interest title) --
and the whole list is awesome, with lots of new titles and things I didn't know about.

She's got lists of things like tearjerkers, vampire fiction, weight and eating disorder novels, and so on.
