Confessions of a Not It Girl, by Melissa Kantor
January 10, 2005
I read it in two days. Plot isn't anything new -- girl likes boy, and finally he likes her back -- but Kantor can make me LAUGH. An excerpt -- from when the heroine's father is cooking, and the boy she likes is coming over for dinner:
"When my father cooks Italian food, he likes to blast opera and sing along. If he doesn't know the real lyrics, he just makes them up. As I walked into the kitchen he was belting out, "Ooooh, my pants are in the oven!" His chef's hat had fallen back on his head, and there were little bulges of fat hanging over the string of his plastic apron. All my dreams of happiness depended on this man. What a terrifying thought."
She is really hilarious like that in lots of places. Hee hee hee. If you like a little romance and a lot of funny lines (and you don't mind reading a book with a big picture of someone's ass on the cover) this one is for you.
