So I had a teen-author filled weekend! It was excellent.
First, I had teen author drinks night, which is drinking with people who write books for teenagers, not with actual teenagers.
Much fun was had by all. I got to talk to Justine Larbalestier, Scott Westerfeld, Libba Bray, Rachel Cohn, Bennett Madison, John Green, David Levithan, Holly Black, and lots of others whose websites I don't know; plus Daniel Ehrenhaft -- whose brand new website is just up and it is really really amusing so you should go check it out right now.
You went, right?
So if that wasn't enough, on Saturday I went to Books of Wonder to hear Westerfeld and Larablestier chat on a panel about their books along with Sarah Durkee, Linzi Glass and best-seller Markus Zusak.
THEN I went to a celebration at New York Public Library for their annual Best Books for the Teenage List. Many of the people listed above were there, celebrating their books, drinking soda and hobnobbing around this really beautiful room in the library. Then Chris Crutcher gave this awesome and funny and tearjerking keynote speech, and design awards were presented to three teenagers who created graphics for the cover of the catalog-length list.
I got to eyeball various people I admire much, including Maureen Johnson, Walter Dean Myers, Rachel Vail, E.R. Frank, Chris Tebbetts, and many many teen librarians who get books into the hands of people they matter to. Yay librarians!
Now I am nearly comatose. But it was worth it.
